If you're a photographer working in any format, style or genre, you can enter BJP Breakthrough's undergraduate or graduate categories, and have your work seen by our influential judging panel.
Handpicked from the photography, art and publishing industries, our judges will select a Series Award and Single Image Award winner in each category.

Assistant Curator

Tate Modern
Emma Lewis is a photography specialist and an assistant curator at Tate Modern, where she works on acquisitions for the permanent collection as well as temporary exhibitions, most recently Wolfgang Tillmans: 2017. She regularly contributes to magazines, journals and artist catalogues and her book Understanding Photography was published by Bloomsbury in February 2017.

Magnum Photos
Diana Markosian is an Armenian-American artist whose images explore the relationship between memory and place. Her images can be found in publications like National Geographic Magazine, The New Yorker and The New York Times. In 2010, she received her master's degree in Journalism from Columbia University. In 2016, she became a Magnum nominee.


Director

Seen Fifteen
& Peckham 24
Vivienne Gamble is Founder and Director of Seen Fifteen, a new space in Peckham dedicated to artists working within the expanded field of photography, video and installation art. In 2016 Vivienne co-founded Peckham 24, a 24 hour festival of contemporary photography which takes place across a variety of Peckham galleries and art spaces.

FT Weekend Magazine

Emma Bowkett is Director of Photography at the Financial Times FT Weekend Magazine. Joining in 2009, she was integral to the creative team who reworked the visual language of the magazine. In 2015 she won the inaugural Firecracker Contributors Award, which recognises women who have had a substantial impact on the photography industry.

BRICK Magazine
Hayley Louisa Brown is a London based photographer and the founding editor and creative director of BRICK Magazine, a bi-annual publication showcasing the best of hip-hop culture. BRICK features work from some of world's leading photographers, and her own photographic work includes portraits of Kendrick Lamar, Smokey Robinson, Nas and Wu Tang Clan.




Head of Exhibitions & Events

BJP
Lisa Farrell is Head of Exhibition and Events at British Journal of Photography. Since joining the magazine in 2015 she has overseen the development of their live programme, including the International Photography Award, Breakthrough Awards and Portrait of Britain. Lisa curates BJP's Breakthrough Sessions and co-programmes Professional Practice Workshops with Magnum Photos.


Online Editor

AnOther

Maisie Skidmore is the online editor of AnOther Magazine, and a writes on a freelance basis for publications including the British Journal of Photography and Riposte. Previously, she was assistant editor of It's Nice That. She specialises in art, fashion and culture.


Juno Calypso

Artist
Juno Calypso is a London based artist. She has won several awards, including the Catlin Art Prize and BJP's International Award, and she is currently one of the 2016 Foam Talents. Juno's work has selected for several international photo festivals, and her video work has been screened at Photo London, Tate Modern and Musée de l'Elysée.
